NotesIn 2000, thanks to double troubles of strong El Niños and overfishing, the nearshore west coast groundfish fishery collapsed. This report documents how the fishery has come back from that disaster, and where it is headed now. Groundfish are longer-lived fish, slow to grow, and their populations do not replenish at the rapid rate characteristic of shorter-lived species. In this glossy, beautifully photographed report, we meet the members of the “beach fleet” and learn how they have coped with increased regulation and the necessity of adapting to change.
