NotesThis article describes a new species of mite, Halolaelaps hatfieldi, found in the summer of 2013 on decomposing sea lettuce ()Ulva)) and eelgrass in a backwater of Yaquina Bay near the Hatfield Marine Science Center. The species is described through different life phases and diagnostic characteristics are given. The author discusses certain anatomical features and hypotheses about their possible functions. The species is named after the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
