Notes"Rising sea levels and a dynamic, high-energy coast present significant challenges for Oregon coast archeology. The surviving record is strongly biased to within the last ca. 1,500 years, and it is certain that scores of ancient occupation sites have disappeared due to erosion and rising sea levels. Human presence along the Oregon coast is confirmed by at least 8,000 years ago, but evidence from Pacific coasts to the north and south (and possible evidence from the Oregon coast itself) assures us that people were present thousands of years earlier." (p.282) A valuable summary of current knowledge of ancient peoples. Maps, line drawings, photographs of artifacts.
