NotesSurveyed commercial fishers regarding community and social values about their fishing heritage. Surveyed fisheries managers regarding their understanding of these values and how their understanding is integrated into the fisheries management process. Managers indicated that they could use more information about social and cultural values of fishers, but the means for integrating such information into management decisions is unclear. Both managers and fishers expressed a desire to maintain Oregon's commercial fishing heritage. Interesting data, especially on fishers' estimates of the importance of their industry in the local economy, and on their expectations for the future. Major professor was Denise Lach.
